The Great Pinecone Drop at the Weatherford Hotel is a Flagstaff New Year’s Eve tradition.  On December 31st, everyone will gather in Downtown Flagstaff to witness the dropping of the Pinecone.  Starting in 1999, the Weatherford Hotel began this time-honored tradition of celebrating the new year.  The Great Pinecone is made from aluminum, it is six feet tall and 70 pounds as it hangs from the hotel. The celebration of the pinecone dropping happens three times on New Year’s Eve, once at noon, at 10pm and midnight. After each drop, there is a short firework show. Visit the Weatherford Hotel website to get more information. If the Great Pinecone Drop is too late for you, then you may like the Flagstaff Noon Year’s Eve.
