Grand Falls Arizona

Grand Falls, Arizona

Grand Falls Arizona, also known as Chocolate Falls, is a natural wonder located in northern Arizona. This majestic waterfall is often compared to the famous Niagara Falls. The falls are known for their stunning beauty, especially in the spring when the snow melts and the water flow is at its peak.

2023 Closure

In 2023, the Navajo Nation closed access to the Grand Falls to tourists.  With too many people visiting the site, many problems persisted.  Litter, road damage and deterioration to the land are some of the reasons it closed.  Maybe one day in the future, it can reopen.

While in Northern Arizona, check out the Petrified Forest National Park or visit Walnut Canyon.

About the Grand Falls

The Grand Falls are located approximately 30 miles from Flagstaff.  The name “Chocolate Falls” comes from the muddy brown color of the water, which is caused by the high sediment content in the Little Colorado River. Visitors are mesmerized by the sight of the rushing water.  It cascades down the towering cliffs, creating a spectacle that is truly unforgettable.

Before the falls closed, the best time to visit is during the spring months when the snowmelt is at its highest, ensuring a powerful and awe-inspiring display of nature’s force.
